Le Puy du Fou: a timeless family adventure

Summary for those in a hurry

Located in the Vendée, the Puy du Fou is a unique historical theme park, voted the best in the world several times over. Its grandiose shows, reconstructed villages and total immersion make it an unforgettable experience for all the family. Approximately 1 hour from the Domaine de la Coutardière, it's an ideal getaway during a stay in a group gîte in the Vendée.

Le Puy du Fou, you don't go there by chance

Everyone here has heard of Le Puy du Fou. But going there as a family is something else. You think “park”. You discover an experience.

As soon as you enter, everyday life fades into the background. Phones are discreet. The children open their eyes wide. And very quickly, we realise that we're not just going to spend a day outside. We're going to experience history together.

A journey through time from a child's point of view

At the Puy du Fou, there are no rollercoasters or noisy mascots. There are live shows, with hundreds of actors, animals and spectacular sets. Children remain fascinated:

  • by gladiators in the Roman arena,
  • by Viking longships rising from the flames,
  • by the galloping knights,
  • by the Bal des Oiseaux Fantômes, where birds of prey brush up against the audience.

Without even realising it, they are learning. They ask questions. They marvel. And that's precious.

La Cinéscénie: an unforgettable evening

If you get the chance, I really recommend the Cinéscénie at Le Puy du Fou. 2,500 volunteer actors. Light shows, water, fire and music. For over an hour, you're taken through almost 700 years of Vendée history. It's grandiose, impressive... and often very moving.

A word of advice: bring warm clothes or a blanket, even in summer, and remember to book well in advance.

A family-friendly organisation

With its 100 hectares, the park can be impressive. But everything has been done to make your visit as easy as possible: free car parks, wide, accessible paths, picnic areas, a variety of restaurants, pushchair hire...

My regular tip: arrive before opening time to get the day off to a better start, especially in high season.

The perfect getaway during your stay in a group gîte

From Domaine de la Coutardière, our group gîte in the Vendée, it's about an hour's drive to the Puy du Fou. It's an outing I often recommend to families staying for several days.

Sometimes even over two days, to really enjoy it without running. And in the evening, on the way back to the gîte, there's that moment I love so much: the children re-enact the scenes, telling stories, laughing... and then falling asleep, exhausted and happy.

What age group is the Puy du Fou suitable for?

Most of the shows are from 4-5 years upwards. Some of them can be impressive, but everything is very well explained and staged.

How many days does it take to visit the Puy du Fou?

One day gives you a good overview, but it's not enough to enjoy all the shows and activities in the park (villages, gardens, mini-farm...). Two days are more comfortable to discover the Puy du Fou without running and really enjoy it as a family.

Is Cinéscénie included in the entrance ticket?

No, the Cinéscénie requires a separate ticket and must be booked well in advance.

Is the park suitable for families with children?

Yes, everything has been designed with families in mind, with free-flowing traffic, shaded areas, a variety of catering options and specially adapted services.

After a day (or two) so full of emotions, a return to calm is essential. At Domaine de la Coutardière, our large self-catering cottage with heated indoor pool and spa, you can enjoy the silence, the warmth of the water and the pleasure of being together.

This is often when the day really ends. When the emotions subside. And the memories take their place.

Le Puy du Fou, a memorable experience

Le Puy du Fou, an experience that leaves its mark You don't come away from the Puy du Fou as if it were just another park. You leave with images in your head, discussions in the car and that rare feeling of having shared something powerful as a family.

And long afterwards, all it takes is a word, a costume or a horse... for it all to come back.
